NeuLion’s MainConcept Technology Enables 4K 60p and 2K 240p file import of New Panasonic Varicam LT Recordings

Leading codec vendor MainConcept partners with Panasonic for expanded format support

PLAINVIEW, NY – April 18, 2016NeuLion, Inc. (TSX: NLN), a leading technology product and service provider specializing in the broadcasting, distribution and monetization of live and on-demand digital video content to Internet-enabled devices, today announced that it has expanded its MainConcept® Codec SDK portfolio with support for Panasonic Corporation’s newest cinematic 4K camera VariCam LT.

The VariCam LT is tailor-made for owner/operators, independent filmmakers, documentary makers and corporate production creators. New formats introduced in the VariCam LT and supported by MainConcept include AVC-Intra 4K-LT up to 60p, and AVC-Intra 2K-LT and AVC-Intra LT (HD) — designed to offer capture rates up to 240p, ideal for sports and documentaries.

Panasonic Corporation’s long time professional partner, codec vendor MainConcept has provided major broadcasters and software companies the codec support they require to ingest content captured by Panasonic cameras. The partnership begins long before cameras go to market, with camera makers collaborating with MainConcept and delivering technical specifications and testing tools early to ensure full format compliance with future MainConcept SDK releases.

By supplying SDKs to the professional broadcast market, including companies like Adobe, Autodesk and AVID, MainConcept remains at the forefront of the constantly evolving digital video landscape. MainConcept’s SDKs support video formats outputted by the world’s largest camera brands and in addition, help to power NeuLion’s OTT platform encoders for a complete 4K-ready delivery ecosystem.

“MainConcept has consistently delivered excellent technology and expertise to drive the industry forward, and so it should come as no surprise that we rely heavily on the SDKs they develop and license to the workflow partners for VariCam LT and other product lines,” said Kunihiko Miyagi, Executive VP of Cinema and Broadcasting, Panasonic Corporation.

“While the NeuLion® Digital Platform remains our marquee product for end-to-end OTT video delivery services, we are thrilled that our MainConcept technologies continue to drive adoption of 4K video for our camera and software partners,” said NeuLion CEO Dr. Kanaan Jemili.
