MainConcept has served the video production industry for over a quarter of a century, and this year, we celebrate 20 years of partnership with Adobe—the game-changing innovator that has revolutionized digital experiences and democratized creativity. Adobe and MainConcept have partnered on a number of projects over the past two decades.

Now, MainConcept’s industry-leading video codecs—tested across a multitude of implementations ranging from multi-seat production studios to home setups—are being used in Adobe video production software to facilitate the transition to ARM-powered chipsets powering Apple Macs and Windows PCs.

Why Did Adobe Select MainConcept as a Partner?

Adobe originally selected MainConcept to partner with them in 2001 based on engineering excellence and the superior ability of MainConcept’s broad codec format support to power various applications. What started as interest in MPEG-1/2 quickly grew to encompass more of the MainConcept codec library, including H.264 and AAC technology for integration into its Adobe Flash Player software.

Adobe chose the MainConcept HEVC SDK (Software Development Kit) to integrate as a core component of their Premiere Pro and After Effects products in 2015. While a number of products and factors were considered, MainConcept emerged the victor based on support of the world’s largest codec library, an expansive set of decoding profiles for improved CPU consumption, and the company’s reputation for quality engineering and stellar professional support.

How are MainConcept Products Used in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects?

Adobe relies on MainConcept’s media importer to support MP4/MOV, MPEG Transport Stream and MXF-based source files in Premiere Pro, After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder.

For finishing a project after editing, mixing and color grading, Adobe also uses MainConcept’s industry-leading SDK components for mastering and exporting projects in files with strict adherence to specifications. Adobe Media Encoder delivers a variety of formats with ease and precision enabled by MainConcept’s broadcast codecs.

With Adobe and MainConcept, content creators can use content from disparate sources and combine it in flexible ways that fuel their imagination, enabling them to realize their artistic vision and to captivate their audience.
