Boris FX Keeps MainConcept at the Core of Vegas Pro 2027, Adds EVA for GPU Acceleration
Boris FX’s editing platform can use Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA GPUs or MainConcept software codecs through a single SDK
Aachen, Germany, and Miami, FL, USA, October 29, 2026 – MainConcept, the leading provider of professional video and audio codec technology, today announced that Boris FX has kept MainConcept codecs at the core of Vegas Pro and added Easy Video API (EVA) for ingest, decoding, and export, giving editors higher color precision for broadcast and grading deliverables, and becoming the first professional editing application to incorporate the feature. With EVA, Vegas Pro, the professional grade video-editing software, can offload decoding and encoding to Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA GPUs when available, freeing the CPU for effects and other compute-heavy work.
MainConcept SDKs handle ingest, decoding, and encoding of MPEG-2, AVC/H.264, and HEVC/H.265 content in Vegas Pro, including professional formats such as the Sony XAVC family and Panasonic P2 AVC-ULTRA and AVC-Intra, both in the timeline and on export.
For Vegas Pro users, that means camera-original footage in these formats goes straight into the timeline. A laptop without a discrete GPU and a workstation with a current GPU can deliver the same formats, using the GPU where it’s supported and MainConcept’s software codecs where it isn’t. For Boris FX, one SDK covers CPU and GPU processing across hardware vendors, so adding support for new hardware takes much less integration work.
“Editors shouldn’t have to pick between speed and format compliance. With EVA, Vegas Pro users get GPU processing when they want speed and MainConcept’s software codecs when a deliverable has to meet spec,” said Frank Schönberger, Director Strategic Partnerships at MainConcept.
“MainConcept has been an integral part of Vegas Pro since its early days. When Vegas Pro joined Boris FX, keeping MainConcept was an easy decision, and EVA lets us build on that foundation with GPU processing across hardware vendors. It’s a partnership that has helped shape Vegas Pro across generations,” said Florian Liepold, Product Owner of Vegas Pro at Boris FX.
