Q.: What is the MJPEG Codec? A.: MJPEG is the abbreviation for the Motion JPEG Codec, which is an analog codec. The MJPEG Codec is used as an AVI container. Every frame is compressed in a special variant of the JPEG picture format
Q.: How can I see whether the MainConcept MJPEG Codec is really installed on my system?
A.: Open the Windows Start menu and open the Control Panel. Select the "System" option and enable the "Hardware" tab. Click the "Device Manager" button and open the "Audio-, Video- and Gamecontroller" tree. Double-clicking the "Videocodecs" option opens the Videocodecs properties page. The Properties page offers an overview of the installed codecs. If there is an mcmjpg32.dll in the list, the MainConcept MJPEG Codec is installed correctly.
Q.: I have trouble watching Motion JPEG clips with Windows XP with Service Pack 1a. Do you have any idea why?
A.: Yes, unfortunately, there is no Motion JPEG Codec included in Windows XP with Service Pack 1a. So, when you install the Service Pack 1a, the normal MJPEG codec (Intel Indeo) is removed. Installing the MainConcept Motion JPEG Codec solves the problem, so that you can watch videos compressed with Intel Indeo (e.g. the MainConcept Texture Loops) on your system again. |
