Codec Package
Rovi's MainConcept MPEG-4 Part 2/H.263 Codec Package is a software module for video stream encoding into MPEG-4 (ISO/IEC 14496-2) and H.263 (ITU-T Recommendation H.263) streams. This format is predominantly used for environments where low bit rates are required, such as streaming. The encoder supports the Simple Profile (SP) as well as the Advanced Simple Profile (ASP). The Codec Package enables you to generate MPEG-4 compliant streams, are used by Sony PSP, Apple iPod and other mobile devices. Additionally, you can create H.263 streams that are required by various mobile phones. As file format MP4 and 3GPP is supported.
The corresponding video decoder is a software-only decoding solution for MPEG-4 (ISO/IEC 14496-2) and H.263 (ITU-T Recommendation H.263) streams. The MPEG-4 Video Decoder can process ISO/IEC 14496-2 video streams produced by the MainConcept MPEG Demultiplexer filter, MainConcept MP4 Demultiplexer filter or by any other compliant filter, such as DivX, Xvid Video Encoders, etc.
For Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, the codec package consists of a Low Level API (in the C programming language). Under Windows, it additionally includes DirectShow filters for decoding and encoding. The decoder filter can be used by any DirectShow® application (e.g. Windows® Media Player).
The Codec Package is available as 32-bit as well as 64-bit version for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
