最近のハリウッド映画を追い風にして、３Ｄコンテンツが一般化していくものと思われます。３Ｄ対応テレビや次世代のBlu-rayプレーヤーの登場により、まもなく家庭でも３Ｄを視聴することが可能になります。各コンテンツクリエーターは３Dの動向に注目しており、これを機会に参入を図っていくものと思われます。MainConceptは３Ｄコンテンツ製作を推し進める秘訣は、３Ｄエンコーディングのクオリティーにあると認識し、３Ｄエンコーディングを包括的にサポートするソフトウェアの開発を可能にするために、Multiview Video Coding SDK(Windows® 32-bit向け)という新しいチャレンジに取り組むに至りました。
MainConcept MVC エンコーダは、H.264/AVC Encoderを基本に実装されていますので、全ての特徴を継承しています。最大10レイヤーまで対応しており、例えば３Ｄの奥行きを表現するために、別々のビュー（視点）を別々のレイヤーとしてエンコードすることが可能です。エンコーダは同期された複数のビデオストリームを受け取り、１つのビットストリームを生成します。３Ｄでは、左目用に１つ、右目用にもう１つのレイヤーを生成し、それを１つにコーディングすることになります。
エンコーダは、MVCの規格に沿う形でHighプロファイルをサポートしています。MVCでエンコードされるストリームのビットレートはビューの数に比例しますが、他のアプローチにくらべ若干効率が良いものとなります。
